From the Director...
This is the second year that our new charter school--Rowe Elementary School will be visiting camp for their one week outdoor education experience. All third through eighth grades in our new school will visit camp for one week. This year we will see the one third grade classroom and the one fourth grade at House In The Wood in May. Each year will see another grade and more classrooms added to the schedule until we have over 6 weeks and more than 500 scholars coming to camp every year. We our looking for staff this year for our SECOND one week experience--our FIRST fourth grade experience.

Basic Information

House In The Wood is looking for experienced staff for the one week third/fourth grade resident outdoor education experience in 2012. Each year we are looking for MORE staff for MORE weeks during the Spring. We are interested in staff who can return year after year.

Attendance at Staff Training is REQUIRED to work at House In The Wood. Staff will be paid for staff training when they have completed their first week of work. Staff need to complete online courses and two days on site. All onsite trainings will be offered multiple times between March and May. Staff may attend sessions based on their schedule. Can't make the scheduled sessions--talk with us.

Position Details

Night Counselor-1 opening (1 female)
Responsibilities are: supervise tuck-in, sleeping and wakeup for a cabin group of 8 to 10 third or fourth graders. Hours are 7:30pm to 8:00am. You will sleep in the cabin with the students.
Benefits: We will provide lodging, food and a salary based on experience. Residency is required—you must spend the night in the cabin.
Qualifications: experience with children; experience with groups of children helpful.

Responsibilities are: supervise tuck-in, sleeping and wakeup for a cabin group of 8 to 10 third or fourth graders. Hours are all day with breaks throughout the day . You will sleep in the cabin with the students PLUS be available during the day to assist with the time between lessons.

Responsibilities are: Morning lessons, afternoon lessons and evening lesson. Lessons are planned and all equipment is prepared and ready to go. Lessons include: Introduction to outdoor learning, marsh, forest, animals, plot study, conservation, insects, astronomy, night nature, and wrap up skit or puppet show. Monday’s and Friday’s schedule is different. Monday morning is prep and the afternoon is a trail group. Friday is a field trip until 1:00pm. Hours are 8:00am to 8:00pm with breaks.
Benefits: We will provide lodging, food and a salary based on experience. Residency is not required.
Qualifications: experience in teaching outdoor environmental education and basic knowledge of topics listed above.

Kitchen Associate-2 opening
Responsibilities are: assist with preparation and cleanup of meals. Start 7:00am and end after supper cleanup. OK to leave between meals.
Benefits: We will provide lodging, food and a salary based on experience. Residency is not required.
Qualifications: experience with kitchen, janitorial, good work background, and good comprehension of rapid spoken English required.

Salary Information
Salaries are determined by position and experience. All Salaries quoted are for the week which includes six days of resident outdoor education, two days of training and any time spent online training. Lodging and food are included with all positions.

Volunteers
We are looking for volunteers to assist on the trail. We will start conducting trainings on all topics related to teaching about the environment to children beginning in Fall.
