Executive
Director - Valerie Wright
shown
here on her camping trip in Minnesota is known as Ms. Val by the
campers and students. She has worked at House In The Wood since 1984.
Before coming to House In The Wood, she spent many summers as
both camper and staff at a camp in Michigan. She has a BA in
elementary education from Antioch College in Ohio and has concentrated her study on outdoor
environmental education. In August of 2010 she became a "Certified
Interpretive Guide" granted by the National Association for
Interpretation. This means she has been trained to interpret the meaning of the natural environment by tapping into the interest of her audience. By January 2011 she will be a "Master Naturalist" granted by the Milwaukee County University of Wisconsin extension. This certification focuses on the basic knowledge needed to
interpret the environment.
Val's office is at camp and she lives down the road from camp. She continues to keep up with the
latest developments in camping and the environmental education field by attending conferences and seminars. While she takes an active
part in the summer
program, she is usually found in the office. During the off
season she takes an active part in developing our new Outdoor
Education Center Curriculum and hosting rental groups. She can be
reached year around at her camp office 262-728-2752. Val's e-mail is

Camp
Business Manager - Terry Fowler
After
25 years working in marketing and corporate communications,
Terry decided to devote himself to something he really enjoys -
cooking. While this may strike some as a dramatic change, it
really isn't. Terry has been cooking part-time at House in the
Wood for more than 20 years and is a familiar face to many of
the retreat center's rental groups. Terry will still be cooking
for groups off-season but he has now taken over the business and
personnel end of our busy year around operation. Terry is
responsible for rental contracts, accounts payable and
receivable, contracts, and our HR responsibilities. In his spare time, Terry is married to Ms.
Val.
He can be reached year
around at his office 262-725-7707or by e-mail at
